Recovery

I am one month post surgery for my pacemaker implant today. I do not think I have healed well. I still have a fairly big lump as well as a very unflattering incision. I do not think the stitching was done well.   Any discussion about this with my Medicals has resulted in "give it more time", and "everyone heals differently".  Any hope of these two bothers calming down and laying flat again?  I don't want this to look this bad moving forward. I also spend more time than I would like perseverating about this recent journey.  I am hoping that my positive energy will once again be redirected.  I often think that I can feel my heart as the pacemaker does its job. Thank you for your thoughts.

healing

We're all different but a month isn't long at all. It can take up to a year for it to settle in completely and for the incision to heal fully. It usually takes me about that long to go from red and bumpy to flat and white so that you can barely see it. Even times I thought the incision looked awful initially, it was still white and flat a year later. Be good about hydration, keep it out of the sun for the first year, and now that it's closed up good, put something on it every day. I asked a plastic surgeon what she recommended, she said she could sell me something expensive but really, all that matters is that we use something natural. I have medical grade vitamin e that I got from my chiropractor but also sometimes use plain aloe (no dyes or preservatives, 100% aloe). Have a little patience, it'll get better.

I'll add, this last time my incision is closer to my shoulder and not always covered by a tank top. I live in the tropics and am very active, I slacked off a few times with sunscreen, even got sunburned once when I was in the water and didn't reapply often enough. This one is 15 months old and still red. Flat and thin, but quite red. Note to self... read your own advice, lol.

Scar

If the scar remains raised when it is fully healed you can buy silicone strips from the pharmacy or drug store which help to flatten it down. They use them on burn victims. I have one and it seems to be helping. They are quite expensive but you only need one and you just wash it and recycle it.
