SOB

Good morning, this is my first time posting. I am a 69 year old male, one week out of having a 3 lead CRT-P implant. I am feeling short of breath at rest, which seems to be getting worst with time. This was one of the symptoms I had prior to the implant. I'm thinking that this may be a side effect of one of the meds I'm on, but would like to know if any others had experienced this. I will be calling this in to my Dr as well, but any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Adjustment

They often use generic settings when implanting your device and have to adjust the settings for your needs. I had them adjust my base rate from 60 to 70 and that made a lot of difference for me.

Are you on a Beta blocker?

Eg Metoprolol, Nebivolol etc.  They can cause shortness of breath as they restrict the smaller capilliaries in the lungs.  I don't get SOB when resting, but find I cannot walk very far without getting breathless.

Thank you both for your comments. Yes I am on metroprolol, which is a new drug for me. I'm due back next Wednesday for a wound check, as well as a pacer check. If this drug related, I'm hoping I adjust to it. Thanks again!

hi - yes the settings are generic as they need data to see what your upper and lower limits are and then they adjust accordingly - everybody is different so yours may be reacting when you don't need it to at the moment - everything is different - if you have blood thinners , if you have statins, beta blockers etc - all needs to be analysed and adjustments will be made - meantime the wound is healing n- everything probably feels super sensitive etc - you wouldn't have been given a pacer for shortness of breath so likelyhood they need to pace you so  for other issues so they need to adjust everything including mess which I'm sure they will do - you should get it done in cardiac unit not just your doctor and they have leads they put over it and can read and graph the activity highs and lows and lengths of episodes - think of a car a nd a tune up ! that's what you are getting - you have a new assistant to assist the engine now it's all about getting the peak performance - some of that also needs to come from you and desire for life too though - hope all goes well .

Thank you, that makes good sense.  Appreciate the comments and will post an update after Wednesday's appointment.

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
