I went for my one week check yesterday and they said my pacemaker kicked in 49% since installed. Does this seem like a lot? My normal heart rate was running 47-50 bpm, with episodes of going into the 30"s and then would pass out. They set it at 60 to kick on. Wondering if when become more active if it will kick on as much?

I have to go back in six weeks so should get more of an accurate reading then. I have been taking it easy this last week so am sure kicks in more since my heart rate was lower not being active. They said the lower chamber didn't kick in at all just the top. This is all new to me so guess get a little concerned. Just have to get used to it.

well if you were "normally" at/below 50 before and they set you above that then sure one would expect that during resting periods where it gets low like that you are hitting the lower limit of 60 and it is keeping you at 60, but for active times where you are above that it doesnt kick in.
Also depends on the type of pacer, I have mostly had dual leads and now have a three lead (complete heart block) the lower chambers are paced at/near 100% the upper falls into that category of only if I go below my lower limit (mine is also 60).
While active and above 60 it wont kick in. But I would still expect at rest you are going to slide down to that limit.
So one week check means in a few months or six you will have another, you can call them at any time to ask questions, no worries there, or wait until that next interrogation where it gives another percentage for the time between visits, and ask them then is this around the percentage you expected and chose the device (and battery size, etc) for? Should I be doing something different to change that percentage or should I not be worrying about it.
Again personally the primary job of my pacemaker is to complete the electrical connection and time the ventricles correctly so perhaps my batteries are much larger than yours if you werent expected to be pacing as much. But just ask them.
Just because some folks here are near zero percent and you are not is not something to worry about, our different reasons for having the device lead to different uses for the device.
