Hi. I'm the wife. My husband recently (3/31/17) got a pacemaker. It's now 6/9/17. He had surgery and was sent home. Was not ready. Was re-hospitalized for 3 days. All of that is over and it made me angry enough. But now.... so THANK YOU ALL for this site. He was sent home with factory settings. He is USMC Ret. resting heart rate =40 And they left him on factory settings. So he starts to exercise, and has SOB. Dizziness. Just can't breathe. Legs like concrete . Feels like he's just old before his time and now has a pacemaker and may as well give up or die trying. You know as USMC what he was going to pick. BECAUSE OF YOU ALL, I convinced him we needed to push hard on the cardiac docs. They said "oh, we leave it on factory settings". Well, that nearly killed him as he thought he just wasn't exercising hard enough. He's been back now 4 times in 2 weeks and they keep tweaking his RR (which had never even been turned on since "most people don't need it"!) and a bunch of other things. We are getting there. Today he walked 3 miles without feeling dizzy or the need to pass out and played an hour of volleyball without needing to stop for air every 10 minutes. Thank you thank you thank you for all being out there!! You have quite literally saved him from believing that "this is just how horrible my life is going to be with a pacemaker". He is getting back to being himself and we would never have figured that out without this site. Thank you!!! A grateful wife who is finally getting her husband back!!! Shelley

Many do not need RR turned on, it depends on the diagnosis. Mine is on too.
Try not to let them change more than 1 or 2 settings each time....that way if your husband feels worse they know which setting to switch back before they try another.
Thank you and your husband for your service. (Families serve too).

awesome!

Good on you for being proactive on his behalf! Good luck to both of you.

You run like the bionic man.

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.
Happy for you
