I received my first icd shock
I am a new member and happy to have found a support group. Two days ago I received my first ICD shock and now im an emotional wreck. I was told my heart went through V Fibrillation, so the device saved my life. Ive had an icd for about a year and a half now. Coping is difficult

Hi CVance,
Sorry to hear that you got your shock. but, hey they've put it there for a reason.
I've had my ICD for over two years and got my first shock in March 2017 (a month before you, it seems). I've also struggled with anxiety, post trauma etc. I have seen a therapist - it helped a great deal and started meditating (e.g. www.headspace.com) and it has helped me a great deal. I'm still a bit on the edge, but it is getting better.
From my experience, it is easier if you accept the help (therapist, counselor, psychologist). They know how to help us understand certain mechanisms, how our brain functions etc.
Stay positive, try to remember the good things (e.g. you are here today).
All the best,
Matthew

Hi CVance, and welcome. Try to look on this as a positive experience: they were right to give you an ICD, and when you needed it, it worked. And it has only happened after 18 months, not a frequent need. Anxiety is a destructive thing, and can only make matters worse. I know this is easy to say and not so easy to do, but I hope you can relax and feel comfort in knowing it was the right thing to do. You will be fine.
