I had a pacemaker installed 13 days ago. During the procedure I lost a fair amount of blood and ended up with a large hematoma. I’m getting better and the swelling and discoloration is going away. However, 3 or 4 days after the procedure I started having black bowl movements which are still continuing.
I suspect they are caused by the body removing the lost blood but I’m not sure. I haven’t taken any medication except Percocet’s which I stopped 7 days postop. I still take 6 extra strength Tylenol daily because my chest and shoulder are still swollen and quite tender. I am also fairly tired however I am walking two miles a day.
My question is: Can the dark stool be caused by the body reabsorbing the lost blood?

Please contact your medical care or local ER and describe what you have described here. The presence of blood, even more so when the source/cause is not known, needs to be evaluated medically as soon as detected. You are wise to be concerned.
