I just got my pacemaker implanted Thursday March 9th. Is it normal for the pacemaker to make you jump with each beat? Should I just lay down for a while? There is no information on this from the pacemaker book, or the doc's post surgery instructions, and of course his office is closed for the weekend...!

We're glad you found us. It's possible that you're just getting use to the feeling of being paced or a setting needs to be adjusted at your first appointment. Be sure to discuss this feeling if it persists with at your first check-up.

Feeling the paces beats
by Chantellerose - 2017-03-13 09:36:34
Hey...I'm in the same boat as you but 5 days ahead. The first 3/4 days I could feel all the beats and tell you which chamber they were coming from(I have a dual one) anyway I can rarely feel them now so maybe my body is getting used to it. So don't worry my surgeon said young people feel all the beats sometimes and also no matter what age you are you may be sensitive to the pacing more than the next person. Anyway hope that puts your mind at rest a little :)
You know you're wired when...
You have a shocking personality.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
Heart jumping with each beat

You don't say why your pacemaker was fitted, so could it simply be that before your heart was not beating efficiently and now it is? However, it is also lkely that your device will need some adjustment to suit your particular needs - we are all unique, and they can adjust a wide range of things from the voltage to the frequency of beats, and the mode. As you doubtless know, they can do such adjustments by putting a sort-of "bluetooth" type device over the pacemaker, usually on a belt that sits over your shoulder, and send new instructions based on test results. Your pacemaker probably records up to 15 months worth of readings, which your technician can read and use to make decisions about the device.
