Anybody know about Garmin Vivio fitbits

Hi got my Pacemaker 6 days ago. I asked the Dr. if I can use my Vivo fit fitness tracker. He didn't know, said call the company, well, I just got a email from the company, they said it should be no problem, but Check With your Doctors!!! Confusing! Anyone have any wisdom about this.

One more thing, is it ok  if I do dishes as long as I dont lift any thing over 5 pds? One lady said she had to keep her arm in a sling for 4 weeks? ( You tube) Not what I was told. I have started doing dish's and putting them in dishwasher! ( Have mine on right so have to use right arm where my implant is, left handed! Not heavy dishes but not light. I think I may go a little nuts from sitting so long! Very depressed today. Ok off subject sorry~ Thanks in advance!

They are safe

by Good Dog - 2016-12-26 19:59:56

They are safe, but be aware that I just read an article published by docs at the Cleveland Clinic. They did a study and found that these devices are pretty useless in terms of accuracy. Obviously, their study was pretty much confined to heart rate accuracy. So the other functions may be great.......don't know?

Yes, it is fine to do dishes. Don't worry, be happy!

A sling for more than a day or two is a really bad idea. The shoulder will freeze. My doctor said don't lift over 20 pounds or raise it above shoulder level. Anything else goes as long as you feel up to it and it doesn't pull. That said, I think it's ok to milk it a bit and get out of dishes for as long as your family will let you get away with it. ;o)

You don't need to be sitting around! Go take a walk or ride a stationary bike or go shopping or whatever you want as long as you aren't moving the arm overhead or lifting anything heavy. It will be good for you mentally as well as physically.

Fitness trackers are perfectly safe, tho as GoodDog said, they aren't necessarily accurate. There are very few electronics and home appliances that we can't safely use. Pacers are well shielded so a magnet would have to be very strong as well as within 4-6" of our device before it could cause any interference.

HR Monitors

I use a Polar HR monitor with no problems.  I had a cheapee brand originally that did not work for me.  The Polar HR monitor I use is an F3, basic model that uses a chest strap.  This one is very accurate for me.  I was working out in a strenuous exercise class and when I checked my monitor/ watch it read 217 bpm.  At my next interrogation it showed 217 bpm at the same time and day I was in the class.  Made a believer out of me.

I don't know if the chest strap made the difference in my case but I still use it.

Dishes!!.....I never thought of that.  I wonder if it's too late to try that excuse??  Probably.....after 8 years.  I'll have to come up with something else.  :)

I love "Fling the Sling!"

Best advise I have seen on this board in a long time!!!  My doctor did exactly that when he came into my room after the implant and saw me wearing a sling the Nurse had put on me.  He took it off and threw it across the room.  You do not want to deal with a frozen shoulder!

As for fitness trackers, I have used both a FitBit Surge and now an Apple Watch with no complications or problems at all.  Understand these are NOT medical devices but do provide you with a basic heart rate monitoring system.  I use mine when exercising.  If my heart rate (HR) gets too high, I get sick and get very bad angina.  I have an app that alerts me via my Apple Watch if my HR goes about a pre-set level.  Sometimes when I am walking hard I don't notice my HR climbing up until it gets too late, this prevents that.

As TraceyE said, there is very litlle that will impact our devices.  I tried to convince my wife that I couldn't use a vacuum cleaner but that didn't work...  I use Bluetooth devices, wireless earbuds that I carry in my shirt pocket, iPads, iPhones, fitness trackers, wifi and almost anything else you can think of.  With every interrogation I ask my Device Tech if any disturbances were recorded by device and each time the answer is no.

Go live you life!  Don't let that little box in your chest keep from enjoying yourself!  It is there to help you, not hender you!

Thank you Lurch and Sparrow
