19 with a pacemaker

Hello everyone! I'm actually really excited I found this site! I hope to tell my story and find someone that has a similar experience.

September 8, 2014:  A little less than 2 weeks after I had my first child I had to have a dnc, during the procedure they noticed a extreme irregularity in my heartbeat.  So once I woke up from the surgery a cardiologist came in and told me they would be putting a heart monitor on me for 24 hours to monitor me.  Okay no biggie.  2 am this phone they gave me keeps ringing... I kept rejecting the call, I was so tired. They then called my personal cell phone and I finally answered...  they proceeded to ask if I needed an ambulance or medical attention. No joke.  So now I'm annoyed and confused lol and the lady tells me that my heart rate dropped so low they thought I was dying.  I laughed and said no I was just sleeping. Man I shouldnt have laughed....

September 9, 2014:  the next morning I tell my mom what happened while we're out running and she told me not to forget to call my cardiologist and tell them.  Well when I was trying to call them they were trying to call me.  After we played phone tag for like ever a nurse tells.me that I have to go to the hospital right now and have a pacemaker put in..

Imagine. I'm 19 years old with a newborn baby and now I'm having heart surgery? I was mind blown.  My mom was crying and I was just numb. Anyway I get to the hospital about an hour and a half later and I'm not kidding you there's a nurse standing outside waiting for me. She rushes me, my son and my mom up to my room and there's 4 other nurses in there getting ready so I can be prepped for surgery. Everything happened so fast.  I ended up not even having the surgery till the next day bc of an abnormal scan but after they did do the surgery I recovered fine.  until the skin pocket they use to hold it in place fell apart.... so now I have this pacemaker that's blocking the major artery in my left arm.  Everytime I straighten, curl, or even brush my hair my arm turns purple and goes numb. I went to my cardiologist and he told me because of the way the previous incision healed they would have to make a whole new one.  He then told me my best bet would be to just deal with it and I'd get over the pain in about 5 years... I'm not even joking.  When he left I could do nothing but cry.  For over 2 years now I've been dealing with numbness, sharp pains in my armpit (which is basically where my pacemaker is), and the pain hasn't dulled.  It's gotten worse.  Thankfully when I moved to North Carolina I found a doctor willing to do the surgery and rid me of my pain!! January 12th I go to set my surgery date and I couldn't be more excited.  This has been a miserable 2 years I'm really hoping this surgery does the job!

You've had a long road! I'm sorry it's taken them this long to listen to you and move it. Sounds like your new doctor is a keeper! Hopefully this will be the end of it and you can get on with your life.
