venous bleeding after implant

On my second pace maker now  and have ofter wondered what prevents  the subclavian or cephalic vein from bleeding after the introducer sheath is removed after the completion of lead and pacemaker procedure.  How does blood pressure play a role in this???  Any comments???

My Theory

The veins carry blood that has been oxygenated in the lungs to the heart.  The pressure is relatively low compared to the pressure in arteries of blood that is being pumped out from the heart.  When I had three large catheters inserted in a  vein in my groin pressure merely needed to be applied to stop any bleeding.  When my subclavian vein was punctured to insert my PM leads, I felt some blood run out on my chest, as the catheter was removed.  That quickly stopped.  The strong elasticity of the walls of the vein seem to be very effective in closing off small punctures.  However,  this is my guesstimate.  You might want to put this on your list of questions  to ask during a follow up appointment with your doctor. I have never heard of anyone expressing any concern about bleeding from the subclavian vein following a PM implant
