Hi all
am going to hospital for 1st check up next week. Can anyone tell me what is involved? And what will happen?
i know they will check the pacing...but do they check anything else? Can they tell if leads are ok or if device has moved? And do they check the wound? Thank you all so much for being there x

If this is your first checkup since getting the PM, then yes, they will check your incision. When they check your PM it will tell them that everything is working correctly, if there is a problem with a lead, the battery status, and pretty much everything else they need to know. It is important for you to advise them of any concerns you may have and how you are feeling. I don't know if you are seeing the doc or just getting a check from a pacer tech. If you are just seeing a tech, they will advise the doctor for you.
I think you will find that after getting the PM there is little that you need to do beyong just regular checks. The most important is being sure to tell your doc exactly how you are feeling so that any necessary adjustments can be made.
Sincerely,
David

I love this new part of me, and very, very thankful that this technology exists and I know that it's all only going to get better over time.

Doctors vary but usually they take a look at the incision and do a pacemaker interrogation. When they do that, they can tell how much you are pacing. If a lead moves, it won't pace so that will show up right away in the interrogation. They usually don't do an xray unless there's reason to believe a lead is dislodged. Sometimes the device moves a bit, normal.
