What is the rate response setting. What does it do when it is on? Why should it sometimes be off?

Rate Response

Hi Raphe If you have a normal heart, your heart rate increases when you exercise ; It increases because every organ in your body needs more oxygen .
If your heart rate does not increase fast enough , or high enough, or not at all when you exercise , then you need a helping hand from your pacemaker which detects that you are exercising and puts in extra heart beats. To do this you need the Rate Response function switching on.
Some people have it switched off simply because they don't need it.
A simple way to tell if you have it switched on or not is to measure your heart rate and tap repeatedly on the pacemaker site with your forefinger. If RR is switched on this fools the PM into thinking that you are exercising and your heart rate will rise quite quickly.
