It has been on my mind that my cardiologist rush me into having a PM immediately following reading a 24 hour Holt monitor showing 11 - 12 second periods of no heart beat at rest but having no symptoms. I was taken by ambulance from his office and had surgery 3 hours later. Last night I talked with a doctor friend that also met my wife at the hospital before surgery to be with us. I felt that what she told me last night was good to share with others who may have reservations about having a device. She said that with the pauses of heartbeat, it was depriving other vital body organs of oxygen including the brain, and over time, damages these organs as well as contributing to an enlarged heart. So I am now glad I have a PM. Another friend told me a friend of his blacked out while driving ( no accident occurred ) before he agreed to getting a PM.

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!
pauses

With pauses that long, you absolutely needed the pacer! I'm sure it felt very rushed and you had your doubts but you are very fortunate to have found the problem before you had organ damage or passed out. I always roll my eyes when people (even doctors!) say they don't need it yet because they aren't passing out. Unless you have a crystal ball to let you know when you will pass out, imo that's just plain foolish. We've had members here wreck their car when they passed out, then they found themselves dealing with both crash injuries and pacemaker surgery at the same time. For sure not the easy way to do it! I'm glad your friend helped you with piece of mind.
