Some post op pain... what's normal..?

Hi all... I'm new this forum.

35years old, just had a dual chamber Medtronic surescan pacemaker fitted for syncope, sinus pause, sinus note disease. I had it fitted on 18th Aug. I have some pain and discomfort around the pocket / wound still... nothing unbearable and managable with paracetomols for now... I'm wondering, if this sort of pain / discomfort normal for just over a week after the op? It's like a dull achey nagging pain. If it helps - I've never had any sort of surgery before so have nothing to benchamakr it against.

Thanks all :)

Welcome! I was just slightly older than you when I had my dual chamber Medtronic implanted 30 years ago. I had just turned 38.

Yes, what you are experiencing is perfectly normal. The pain should subside substantially within a month. While you heal pretty quickly on the outside, it takes much longer to heal internally. The discomfort could last for 2 or 3 months, but you'll be amazed at how good you feel after about three months. I was playing very competitive sports and really pushing my limits after about 6 months.

So it just gets better from here.

Wish you the best!

I am 33 and got my device about two and a half months ago. Most of my soreness went away after about 4 weeks, and was feeling great and even forgetting it was there after about 6, which is around when I started jogging regularly again. Apart from feeling the device under my skin if I touch my left shoulder, I now don't have any pain at all and full range of motion. My only complaint is that my scar is still pretty itchy on some days, but I'm taking that as a sign that it's healing. Hang in there - it gets better, I promise! Good luck!

I had a medtronic dual chamber put in around the end of July. I am still kind of sore inside and out but not too bad. I was told to take it pretty light for 2 months so those leads get set into the heart muscle real good.

You know you're wired when...

Your device acts like a police scanner.
