Recovery

Had my device inserted on Tuesday , came home yesterday, & survived my first night at home ! The site is very sore but I'm feeling pretty good ! I know it will get better each day , so I'm just trying to be patient !!

One question though, did anyone have any pinching by their ribs with certain movements ? I noticed it a few times when I was laying down in bed... Hoping I'm not pulling a lead or anything !

Thanks !!

pinching and pulling

It's all perfectly normal! You'll feel all sorts of odd sensations as the body gets used to having a piece of metal in there, as scar tissue builds up a protective layer around it. Shooting pains and burning are normal as the nerves knit back together. Ice will help.

You won't pull the leads. After the first 24-48 hours nothing you do will hurt them. Sometimes they move because they weren't in a good spot to begin with or the heart wall didn't like the type of lead used, but even that is rare after the first day or two. If your heart rate is normal, then it's pacing and you can assume the leads are in place.

Thank you so much ! That makes me feel a lot better !! Other than being sore, I can't believe how good I feel so I'm waiting for something to go wrong ☺️

You're through the hardest part, you got this! When you read too many posts here, you start to expect things to go wrong but the reality is 99.9% sail through it just fine. The other 0.01% comes here to ask their questions so it seems out of proportion. I feel a little guilty sometimes reading about the people struggling to adjust or not feeling well after. I felt energized literally from the minute I woke up in recovery. My rate went from 20's to normal, oxygen is an amazing thing. I got in trouble with the nurses for trying to pace the halls that night but I felt too jazzed to stay in bed! It's 20+ years later and I'm still feeling great (tho I'd sure like some of that initial energy back!), have been through 5 devices and haven't had any problems worth whining about. I really think I'm the rule, not the exception. Wishing you a similar experience :)

Joro, so glad to hear your surgery went well!  It has been 9 days since I had mine and things are better each day.  I had a lot of anxiety the first couple of nights but I have finally settled down.  Had my first follow up appointment yesterday and I was also worried in case the leads had become dislodged, but everything is fine.  After talking with an EP, I feel so much more confident and have been out visiting, shopping, and spent time on our boat.   I found I was very tired for the first couple of days and just had to lie down and take a nap, but each day I seem to have more energy.   Lots of bruising, but not a lot of pain.  Hope everything goes as well for you.  Keep us posted.

You know you're wired when...

You have an excuse for gaining an extra ounce or two.
