Heart Rate 43-50 Bpm

Hi all  … I have been feeling sick, very tired, and dizzy . I have not fainted. I'm a female fighter and I'm really worried about my job. The cardiologist has said I may need a pacemaker ... Do I really need one? Will I be able to go back to work? No other heart problems it's just slow.

Is your Cardio an EP?  The EP is a cardio Dr that specializes in the hearts electrical problems and is usualyy the best qualified to evaluate as well as to implant a PM.

A low heart rate can just be an indicator of being in great shape (heart-wise). You're beign tired could be something else or could be the HR or the recovery rate for your heart.

You need to find out what the underlying problem is and then discuss the impact on your career with your Dr. I would guess that high impact sports (fighting) are probably out even if the PM is installed under muscles vs just under the skin.

My heart rate had always been about 50 at rest and never dropped below about 47 even when on morphine & lying down for some procedures until last year (I'm now 56).  Following a hiatal hernia repair I never recovered my energy and to make a long story short, my HR woudl drop into the low 40's at rest and high 30's when lying down.

After some tests - thyroid test, wearing a holter monitor for 48 hrs, an event monitor for 3 weeks and and echo they don't know why my HR was dropping but the combination of my rate dropping at rest for no apparent reason and a very slow to non-existent recovery rate (heart not picking up when exerting) led to my PM.

I felt better the day after the PM than I had in the prior 6 months.  I am paced @ 50 which works nicely for me.

You know you're wired when...

You play MP3 files on your pacer.
