Hello,
In Feb 2016, I had my pacemaker replaced, that became infected- On April 22, I had the leads, pacemaker, and some vegation from the heart, and tissue from the pocket removed. On April 26, a new pacemaker was placed under the muscle on the left side and new leads. I also had 5 weeks of Vancomycin.
Now the questions--
Did you take antibiotics after your replacement? I was not given anything after the first surgery, just see if this is the new normal/
How long was the site sore from the PICC/Midline? My is still tender after it being removed 10 days ago.
Did you have any lasting effects from the infection? or meds?
Please share anything else you think would help-

had my CRT and 3 leads yanked out in January. Was on a wound vac, life vest and infusion pump for months. Had a reaction, my liver and kidneys began shutting down, to the vancomyocin and had to change to another antibiotic that I can't remember. Just got a new CRT and leads 3 weeks ago.
- No I didn't get antibiotics after implant either time. They did wait until the wound was completely healed and the infection was totally wiped out. Nice divot in my left shoulder that's a little sensitive but manageable
- No pain or issues from PICC line.
- Difficult to say whether I have any other issues, too early but looks good so far. I do know the Vanco is some nasty stuff and can result in long term damage
I'm a little surprised how quickly they replaced your device, but I know a few who got theirs when the old device was removed so...I think some doctors are willing for us to take the risk and others not so much. If you have some more Q let me know

IV anti-biotics

Haven't had a replacement yet and no infection but they normally give you IV antibiotics during the procedure and/or shortly thereafter as a precaution.
Did have a PICC for a different procedure but it was only sore for a few days...of course I have other areas of my body that were sore for much longer than that...woudln't hurt to have it checked out in case of infection.
