I'll tell you how it feels to me, but bear in mind your results may vary. To me it's a quick thump just micro-seconds in duration and then it's over. More startling than anything. For the next day my heart feels like any other muscle that I have a cramp in. Just a little ache but no major issue.
I had this conversation with St. Jude's as well as my Cardiologist. Both confirmed that some patients say it's no big deal and others you'd swear it's the end of the world. I suggested it might be a function of how much damage our hearts have. In my case it's a mess, in fact they won't even give me trade-in value on a new one. They all thought that might explain some of it. No different than the variation in voltage required for different patients to pace them.
Just be thankful you are one of the lucky ones no matter the cause. Good luck

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.

While my cardiologist says I have had it happen 2xs....I couldn't tell you that it did happen !! :)
I have "heard" that it can be painful, but it all depends on just "what" it has to do..if that makes sense.
Best to not worry about it...that is what I try to do.
Good "living" to you.
