Redness around incision area

My mom has had a pacemaker for years and she just had to get the battery replaced on Thursday. All went well, but now the area surrounding the incision is red and the area below it is too.
We already called the on call doctor, who said we needed to head down for the ER to get antibiotics in her.

I was just wondering if they would keep her overnight? Or for much longer?
She's bummed she has to go down there, especially since it's her last day off and she was supposed to go back to work tomorrow. Also because this is the first time it's ever been infected.

Thanks in advance.

I am sure they are concerned about an infection and they will probably try to knock it out with antibiotics. It is unlikely she will need to stay overnight, but that is difficult to know for sure.

Nobody likes to go to the ER at any time, day off or not. Your on-call doctor gave you the right answer, and if Mom doesn't go today I'd advise planning on calling the doctor's office first thing tomorrow, and likely going in for an examination. It's absolutely best to catch any infection quickly and not wait for it to possibly go away.
