I have had a device for 10 years but in August was implanted with an ICD. Now I have an infection, and will be admitted to the hospital tomorrow ... Has anyone been thru the treatment to clear it up? My doc is talking about removal, return to pacer til clear. I have had an AV node ablation so need some type of device. I am really scared HELP

......I see from your past postings that you have, indeed, been around here for a long time...
After ten years to suddenly find that you have an infection is a total bummer,...and no mistake.
Having had an infected Box myself, I really can sympathise with you.
Now we live in a world where most infections can be dealt with by taking anti biotics...so quite why they don't work on PM infections is still a mystery to me.
Its a rotten fact that ,in my experience and reading stuff here on PMC, it seems that the only certain solution is removal and replacement...in my case with a RH PM.
Being scared is just what I felt....TELL your people how you feel and they will make sure that you are properly sedated and reassured during the procedure.
I will be thinking of you today...my very best wishes Mary...when you feel up to it please let us know how it went..I am sure it will be just fine...easy to say, I know.

Thanks Tattoo Man - I will be under general when they remove it - that I know. Just been having a lot of pain on my left side and now even down in my abs. Scary. Will glad when I get to the hospital and get help.

Thanks for all the comments - I am home from the hospital. One of the vials of blood culture was contaminated by my local lab that drew the blood and that is what started this fiasco. I am glad I am not sick but the whole thing sure did raise my stress level.
You know you're wired when...
You run like the bionic woman.

.......after ten years this must have come as a real shock to you..
I was told that antibiotics don't work on infected PMs and that removal and replacement is the only certain solution...so that is what I had..a new one on the RH side.
I will be thinking of you today..my very best wishes...I am sure that it will be ok ..please let us know how it went as this is by no means an unusual problem and the more that we understand the more informed we are on the matter.
My very best wishes
