Heartburn/Indigestion?

Hi, I'm sure I've seen posts about this before but can't find them.

Does anyone suffer with heartburn/indigestion feelings post PM insertion? I'm 6 weeks in, and never suffered with heartburn or indigestion, but now I get it quite often. I haven't changed my diet, the only thing different is that I have a pacemaker.

Any thoughts? I'm due to see cardiologist on 12 January for post-op review so might raise it with him then.

Reminds me of my Dad

My Dad worked around electrical machinery. Got zapped quite a few times. This was during the time the watchmakers came out with the wrist watches that could be wound just by moving your arm. My Dad got one as a gift. He put it on, and within a half hour it stopped working. I put it on, it worked all day. He put it on, it stopped working within a half hour. No one, to this day, has been able to tell us why that happened. I still have the watch. It still works fine for me.

In answer to your question, I've also had some indigestion feelings post PM. Is it a foreign object in the body? Is it new medications? Is it something else? Who knows? I don't think they'll be able to tell us. Just deal with it an go on.

The most you'll get from your EP/Cardiologist is a shoulder shrug.

I hope everything else is going well for you.

Heartburn/Indigestion

These symptoms are not associated with pacemaker insertion.

These symptoms are associated with weight gain ( as in a hiatus hernia, or acid reflux). A hiatus hernia may still be present once you have lost the weight.

Indigestion is a non specific term. It can be used to describe chest discomfort associated with angina/heart attacks by some people. Clearly a long history of 'indigestion' responding to treatment is helpful to diagnosis. 'Indigestion' associated with exercise is an urgent situation requiring medical attention.

Unexplained 'indigestion' can signify serious disease if it is recurrent beyond a 6 week interval..

Almost all medicines can cause 'tummy upsets',

Ask your doctor

Within two weeks of having my pm implanted I began having heartburn. It was excruciating. I had never had it before so didn't recognize the symptoms at all. It began in my chest and radiated around to my back. It happened twice in 3 days. Our daughter who is a registered nurse was visiting and called the EP's office. They had me go to the Energency room because the symptoms were so similar to a heart attack.

How silly I felt when they diagnosed it as heartburn. They prescribed Prilosec and I haven't had it since. I am not overweight, and again, I had never experienced it before so I'm convinced it was a result of the pm.

Our daughter has told me that she has seen it happen several times in her work as a nurse. I would definitely get it checked out. Better safe than sorry and taking that one little pill a day is worth avoiding the pain of heartburn.
Blessings,
Betsy
