I'm going in for my 6 week checkup tomorrow and to adjust some of the settings of my Medtronic MRI dual lead pacemaker. I have been searching through previous posts and the internet for some answers on the rate response and whether or not I need it on and if so what are some recommendations for the settings. I was diagnosed with SSS and bradycardia; 44 year old female runner. I am on no medications. right now my rate response is on ADL/Exertion responses are both at 3; medium Low activity threshold; 30 sec acceleration; 2.5 min deceleration; ADL setpoint is 18 and UR setpoint is 40. my lower rate is 50bpm and upper is 145bpm. I am having some issues with always feeling like there is something in my throat (almost like mild choking) throughout the day and cannot not run like I used to. When I am running, especially up hill its like I loose all the circulation to my legs and they feel like jelly and I'm so short of breath then a few seconds later I get wave of energy again. I want to be able to run again and not feel like someone is choking me. Could this be the Rate response doing this; should be off; and if not what are some recommendations for settings? I know we're not doctors here but I feel like people here have the life experience that the doctors don't and sometimes I feel like they don't hear what I am telling them. Thanks. Lisa

Manufactures Rep

See if the manufacture has a rep in your area that is used to working with athletes.
Yes, the rate response probably needs adjusting. But there are too many variables and difference between person to give an "numbers".
Best if you can work with the tech to make an adjustment and then do a test such as running the stairs or even better have treadmill.
May have to have several iterations.
