Now and then episodes

I had a pacemaker installed Dec. 2015, because of Bradycardia, 40 up to 50 heart rate. Anyway, now and then, maybe once or twice a month, at bed time, around 1:00am or so, I'll have an episode. This morning, around 2:30am, while still awake, I felt my heart racing, and warm flashes around my chest. Immediately, I put on the small monitor on my finger, and found that my heart rate was 120. It slowly dropped down to 40, for a few seconds, then up to 70 or so. During this time, I felt weak, and a bit dizzy. I was taking deep breaths, and trying to breath relaxing breaths. Everything finally got back to normal, and I was then able to sleep. the last time I had such an episode, I had eaten some fried chicken from the store, perhaps too much sodium. then, last night, I had a store bought already cooked BBQ rib pkg., with loads of sauce on it. I'm thinking that the extra sodium and chemicals from these kinds of foods can affect my heart rate?

A lot of things

A lot of things can trigger heart arrhythmias. That includes salty food, alcohol, dark chocolate, and other things.

If this happens every night at 1 AM or so, you might also want to check with your EP's office and see if your PM is set to go into self check at that time. For some reason mine is set to 12:20. It sometimes wakes me up with my heart doing all sorts of weird stuff.

You might want to check with your EP and see if he can make some suggestions.

Today I explained everything to my doctor, he set my lower rate back to 80 and I felt an immediate improvement.
