Hi! My mom-in-law had her pacemaker implanted last Dec '09. Is there an expiration date for this device? Medtronic IPG VVI SESO1? She could not remember that she was advised to come back for a certain # of years for the replacement of this device. What are the indications that it needs to be replaced? No home monitoring was advised as well. Appreciate your inputs please. Thanks!

I don't know anything about her device, but I can advise you that a cardiologist needs to make a recommendation for replacement. It should be checked periodically and she must follow-up with a cardiologist.

I'm 44, active and have had my device for two years. I love it as I can run again and enjoy working out without feeling like I'm an old man.

Usually you should have a pacemaker check every 3-6 months depending on your situation, but my pacemakers tend to last around 10 years before needing to be replaced. Phone up your mother-in-laws clinic for advice if you are concerned.
