I want to buy a T.E.N.S. unit for at home use. Can pacemaker people use it ? I have gone to physical therapy before and told them I had a pacemaker and they used the T.E.N.S. there.

No

Absolutely not anywhere near your pacemaker site. I did have a patient that used it on their lower leg, but no where near the pacemaker.
I worked for a Dr. for a few years and I was told to NEVER place a TENS uint on a pacemaker patient. There were just too many risks involved.
If a Dr. says it's ok, then I would be asking them why they feel that way. Then make up my mind. Just my opinion, please let us know what you decide and how you are doing.
I agree, stay away from the upper body

In fact I wouldn't use one anywhere on the upper part of my body. Getting near the pacer isn't as much problem as being near the heart from either chest or back. Remember, the most sensitive area is the heart end of the leads that are designed to pick up signals. Unless the pacer is in unipolar mode the leads and pacemaker are pretty well shielded.

I just called my manufacturer Boston Scientic customer service. I gave model number and serial number and they said not to use because it could pick up the signals from the TENS units. I told the PT place that I had a pacemaker and they still used the electric stimulation. It was on my foot. The unit was on a table next to me when sitting on a long treatment table. I guess that was not good. You learn something everyday !!!

PACEMAKER IMPLANTATION

I was 30years old having my third baby in the hospital with an emergency C- section after 14 hours of labor. I coded on the table, then developed a serious staffacoccial infection and a fever of 105. needless to say I was very I'll but did get better after transfusions etc. 6 months after I started passing out for no reason I thought. I would have a warning with a warm feeling starting at my toes and by time it hit my waist I was passed out. I did this for 5 years with ambulances to the hospital but my heart went back to it's normal rymthem as soon as I woke up within minutes, so they would run tests with blood and nothing showed, so I went home. After the 5 year mark, I was working and a cardiologist came into the lab to have lunch with another doctor. he asked me how I was in casual talking. I said not good today I feel alittle chest pain. he put me immediately in an examining room hooked me to an EKC, and as he was running the test I passed out the able. He caught the long pause in my electrical part of my heart. I immediately was sent for a TILT TABLE test that confirmed I needed a pacemaker. In 1989 I had my first one at 35. I just had my third pacemaker implantation. It saved my life! It does work thank God!!! if it didn't I probably would not be here today or one day I would have not woke up and my heart not started up on it's
own. After months of healing you don't even know it's
there and I am so grateful the cardiac technology was available at that time and improved so much since back then. I have a ST. JUDE pacemaker, duel chamber, and I am so grateful and Hank god everyday for my life given to me. Thank You

I was going to purchase one for pain. But, I am calling the manufacturer and give my model and serial number. I feel they will know better then the doc. My doc left practice, my new one didnt even take a peak at my pacemaker. I felt like saying just look at it for a second dude ! Plus didnt take blood pressure (I have neurocardiogenic syncope).
