I have an appointment next week. It is supposed to be automatic. The Merlin reads my pacemaker every morning between 3am and 5 am
What is the difference between that and this scheduled appointment? Do I have to be in the bedroom near the Merlin longer / or what / or just do nothing?

device check difference

Home wireless links are pretty much "read only" so you still need to go to the EP lab to have leads checked and / or adjustments made. From what I understand their primary function is to alert your Dr. if you have any unusual episodes that would be of concern between office visits. As far as location you do want the link to be "bedside" or at least in the same room, and no you don't have to do anything unless you are experiencing problems, in which case you can use the "send button" to upload your device data.

In its infancy , in the future this "Merlin" will include blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and heaven knows what else ..and what will all the doctors do then ?
Hopefully, I am to receive a bedside monitor next month..

John I asked when I was in the office in July and they made this appointment for November if I had to come in to the office and they said no. That I don't come back in until January. That it is done at home. So I was wondering how it differs from the nightly ones it's been doing all along.

ok I think I understand now. Thanks--I couldn't figure out what the difference was.

It sounds like they have you scheduled for 6 mo. office visits and an remote report from your home link in between visits in November. My office doesn't even tell me when they schedule a remote download but I know it is between my 6 mo. office visits as well. Another way to explain it is that your pacemaker "reports in" to the home link every day or so, and on the day of you're Nov. appointment your home transmitter will automatically download the most recent data to your Dr. without you having to do anything differently.

I have an ICD so mine might be a little different. During mine they test the pacemaker portion by speeding up my heart a little. Woke me up the first time and I didn't know what it was. By the time I was fully awake, it was over and I wasn't sure if it really happened.
