Electronic Sewing Machine

Not long ago I splurged and got an electronic sewing machine. I had'nt had time to really use it before I had to get my pacemaker.
Does anyone know if it will be harmful to use now.

Sewing machines

Some woman have a problem with them too. A long, long time ago when I was learning to sew, my foot hit the foot pedal and the needle went through the tip of my finger. Lucky for me I kept my nails short so it just went through the flesh.

So watch out for those foot pedals, they're dangerous. :-)

I never did that again and I did become much better at sewing.

Should not be a problem

I can not think of any household appliance, that is in proper operating order, that would cause any problem for you. Go for it and have fun!

I too was concerned about using my sewing machine after getting my pacemaker in January. The booklet that came with my Medtronic pm says quote:

"The following items can be used when they are kept 6" away from your pacemaker. (It is usually the motor that may cause an electromagnetic field.) If you experience dizziness or palpitation, simply move further away from the item. Your pacemaker will then operate properly."

Then among the items listed...

"Sewing machines and sergers (sewing machines that overcast edges to prevent fraying)."

I measured how far my pacemaker is from my machine when I am comfortably sewing since I tend to sit very close and asked my dr. if there could be any issue at all and he told me not to be concerned. I have only used my machine a couple of times in the last months and have not experienced any problem. You didn't mention if you are a confident sewer, if not check into sewing classes and have fun with your new machine.

I'm a woman and in the past have been very close to what I have been sewing. I don't have any projects right now but was worried I might not be able to use my new machine

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
