Hi everyone,
I,m a 65 year old male and I had a PM put in 2 years ago.
I have had afib all my life. The reason for the PM was because I was having slow beats as well. My EP thought by putting in a PM it would help the slow beats and then he could increase my Cardizeum to 420 mg. a day to help the afip and not have to worry about slowing my heart down.
My question is: I,m thinking now of having my AV Node ablated and would like to hear comments of others who have had this done. I,m concerned if I,m doing the right thing.
Thanks so much !

Ablation and Medication

I have a pacemaker for similar reasons. I had a very low heart rate that made it impossible to administer medications for my Afib since they lowered my heart rate even more. I had a PM implanted a little over 3 months ago. They experimented with three medications before they got the right type and dose for me. I am now almost completely Afib free. I am taking only 50 Mg of Flecainide twice daily and only 5 mg of Bisoprolol. These are considered to be the minimum effective doses. I take them on an empty stomach and wait 30 minutes before eating. I am wondering if they have truly examined the types of medications that could be more effective in controlling your Afib rather than jumping to the more serious decision to undergo an ablation?

Pacemakers are very reliable devices.
