Hi,
My husband had a new Medtronic CRT-D (Viva) implanted in October of this year. At his first appointment is showed that there as 9 years on the battery, a week later.....8.9 years, three weeks later 7.3 years and now six weeks in it is showing 4.9 years left on the battery.
What the heck?? At this rate it will need to be replaced after just 3 months!! Has anyone heard of this happening? Should we be concerned? Has anyone had this happen?

Thanks for your quick response. You have made this so much more understandable for us than the technician did. LOL This is a reasonable explanation that has put our minds at ease. Thank you

Your anxiety is normal. It takes some of us a little time to adjust to the new friend. As much as they love you, family and friends without a device just cannot understand the adjustment we go through. That is why this site is so valuable.

They commonly adjust the settings the first few visits, that's perfectly normal as the heart gets used the pacing, the leads settle in, and they figure out how to best optimize it for our needs. It's not actually depleting. The estimate is based on the settings at the time of the report so every time they change the settings, the number changes. Average life on a CRT is 4-5 years, so the current number sounds about right to me. It should level out now.
If the icd fires, expect another drop.
