Yes they hurt like a bolt of lightning....or like a horse has kicked you in the chest..Dont let anyone say they don't If someone elses hasn't hurt like that I want one like theres...I have a Boston Scientific but it did mis fire 4 times about a month after I got it...I was ready to have turned off and they could have and the dr would have but I decided to leave it and it hasn't misfired since and I have had it 3 years now....So,Im not sugar coating the episode..at all

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
Talk with EP / cardiologist

Your feelings are not out of line. Dealing with the shock is hard. I don't have an ICD, so it's hard for me to imagine what it is like. However, other people have had your problem.
I would talk with your EP / cardiologist. People here locally (Ohio) have the same problem and the local hospitals have set up counseling for your problem. Like I said, I don't have what you have, so I'm not aware of all the details. If your EP / cardiologist can't help, contact a local hospital and see if they have ICD support groups. If they don't they may be able to offer other suggestions.
One national organization in the US is Mended Hearts. www.mendedhearts.org They can offer suggestions for people with ICD's. Mended Hearts usually has someone in a local group with your same situation and can offer alternative help. I wasn't able to find a local chapter in Appleton, but they do give contact names. It would be worth looking into.
I hope you can find some help quickly.
