Hey Gang,
What happens if you accidentally get too close to one of the grocery store detectors, you know at the entrance or exit, and hear a beeping sound? I'm only paced at 50.

It is not a metal detector

The store security systems are not metal detectors, they receive a radio frequency transmitted by special tags placed on merchandize to prevent theft.
If your device is beeping, it is to let you know there is some type of interference. From what I have read once you have cleared the RF area your device will return to normal.
Store Alarms

I have had the store alarms go off a few times in at least 3 different stores.1 store more than once.
The store alarms I've encountered are loud when they go off.
Makes you want to go shopping less. :-0
Disclaimer once again....I do not shoplift....and I do not shop in ROBO Pop's store.

beeping

Is the beeping from the store device or you? Every once in a while I set off a store device, but not often, less than a dozen times in the last 20 years. No one has ever approached me when I set one off, if they did I'd just tell them I have metal in me. It's not at all uncommon, in addition to the other pm's out there think of all the artificial joints.
It's perfectly safe to go through them, just don't linger. The very worst that can happen is it puts it in test mode for the time you are too close.
THANKS!

thanks Tracey, still new at the "spefic" stuff and I forget sometimes...I think it was the store beeper, I was afraid it could have messed up my heart 'gadget'.
You know you're wired when...
Titanium is your favorite metal.

They are pretty darned tough! I've never found anything that affects it. Live your life and don't worry about it.
The device has a switch that is pulled closed with a magnet, this switches it to test mode where it paces at a steady 60 bpm. The very worst that can happen is this switch gets pulled closed and it is in test mode until you get away from the magnet, at which time it goes back to full function with no harm done. The magnet generally has to be strong and less than 6" from the device for this to happen. It'll feel just like when they test it, that's what the little white thing is they put over it when they interrogate, a magnet.
