Hi there! just a quick question for the pros :) What would the pm's rate response function have to do with on demand pacing if anything? I had a weird almost episode a bit ago~When walking at 3.7 mph on my treadmill (one of the first times since pm 2 weeks ago) I had a pause that lasted a bit longer than I think it should have, kinda knocked me back a bit, rhythm came back SLOW and not steady, then got back on treadmill when the dust cleared, happened again, this time when the beat finally came back it was faster more like it should have been considering the exercise...I am paced at 50 for stage 2 heart block, type 2 ...any thoughts?
Thanks and hope everyone is ready for Thanksgiving!!

When you first get the PM

When you first get the PM you get all sorts of weird feelings as far as the heart goes. It's really hard to tell what happened unless you can actually look at the print out from the PM.
I got a similar sensation while walking. Felt like my heart stopped completely and it seemed like it took the PM a long time to kick in. Had a reading on my PM shortly thereafter. An event was marked on the printout but the EP just shrugged it off. So while it felt like the PM didn't kick in that isn't what happened.
Per your comment - when the beat finally came back it was faster. Well, yeah! You just dumped a whole bunch of adrenalin into your system. Heart shoulda took off beating fast!
I call it the McDonalds effect. We get the PM and think everything should be instantly cured. Doesn't happen that way. You gotta give your body time to adjust to the new reality. I don't argue that it felt like it took a long time for the PM to kick back in but due to programming it didn't happen that way. Mark the date and time on your calendar and check it out on your next PM reading.
You just got your PM on the 10th or 11th. It's a major change to your system. You're on the treadmill. And you're surprised something happened? It was over three months before I could even get on the treadmill.
So, yes you're going to get weird feelings for a while after you've gotten your PM. While it may feel like it isn't working correctly it is.
Hang in there. Life gets better.
