burning sensation after pacemaker operation

Hello,

I hope someone can help my mother who is in her 80’s. She had a pacemaker operation over 3 months ago. Two days later, a burning sensation started in her back area, and has been there day and night ever since. This causes her enormous stress and pain, making it very difficult for her to relax and sleep. She has seen over a dozen specialists - including several cardiologists, neurologist, immunologist, etc. – all of who say two things: there’s nothing wrong with the pacemaker; we don’t know what is causing the burning sensation.

Is anyone familiar with this burning sensation (in the back area, not by the heart) after a pacemaker sensation? As her loving son, I would really be grateful for any contribution on this topic. Even if you don’t have a solution, it would be reassuring to know that my mum is not the only one suffering this condition. Please do send your news.

Hi James. Poor Mum. I haven't been able to sleep since my implant in August either. It is such an inconvenience/misery.

Could the burning sensation be from acid reflux? Have you seen a GI specialist? Even if they can't pinpoint exact cause, I hope at least one specialist has given her some medication and/or advice to relieve it.

My cardiologist is almost dismissive of my insomnia but it's really a big deal to me. Months of sleeplessness!

Nerve pain

Hi James I suffered the burning pain and referred pain as it's known as , namely not at the pm site but in the area surrounding it. It was diagnosed as nerve pain ...with the nerves possibly hitting the scar tissue or having been pinched. I was put on a course of gabapenten. After 2 to 3 months it died down and went away. Perhaps go to a pain specialist and discuss this? All the best shal
