haircut

Hi all, I am new to this just 4 weeks in with my pacemaker and I need a haircut badly. I look like an old sea hag. I have had a hairdresser tell me she wouldn't do it because it may interfere with the pacemaker. Is it safe to get a haircut? thanks for your help.

It is OK to get a hair cut, my wife uses hair clippers on my hair all the time.

Is she

Is she a relative of Dr. Frankenstein and using clippers wired with 240 volts AC? If so, I'd be worried. Otherwise, find a new hairdresser if she won't be reasonable.

I volunteer in a woodshop and work around all sorts of electric motors which are a lot more powerful than hair clippers with no effects. Had a guy use a security wand on me (which they aren't supposed to do) with no effect. Jump started my daughter-in-law's car (which you aren't supposed to do with a PM) with no ill effects. Have my hair cut - what little is left - electric clippers - no effect.

Most electrical stuff you find around the home and normal retail places aren't going to bother your PM. Heavy industry could be another problem. But most people on this forum aren't in heavy industry.

I've had more trouble while playing tug with the dog. I forget, use my left arm and the dog shakes the tug rope. It shakes my PM and causes the motion detector to wake up. It then kicks up my heart rate. I say, "Oh, shucks, forgot." Change the tug rope to the other arm and keep on going. (This is one of the two dogs who stayed with me when I collapsed due to my heart "event". I owe the dog a lot for the loyalty.)

I'm coming up on one year with the PM. A lot has happened but I feel really good. Hang in there, life does get better.

called the manufacturer

Hi I have a Biotronik Evia DR-T PM. Put in 7 days ago. I called the company for some advice. They said I could have periodontal scallig (gums) with a spark type device they use. He said its fine just don't let him put the wire over the PM or leads. He also said BTW that it was approved for MRI internationally but FDA didnt approve it so if I had an MRI it would void the warrentee.
As for a haircut I'm sure it will be ok but call the company for advice.

Hasve had a PM since 2000

You can try educating your hairdresser if you really like her and don't want to lose her.

Hope that works. Then.....if you like your hairdresser, you can keep your hairdresser......no lie.

But I think it will make me feel a lot better. My stamina to walk is already better, even right after surgery. They had me walk all around the floor before they would release me. I did so without being exhausted and winded the way I had been.
