I'm a 20 year old college student.just 2 days ago I got my pacemaker implanted. Since surgery I still feel the same, tired and fatigued. I was wondering if anybody had the same problem. It's like this throbbing in my head with a tired feeling. Am I suppose to feel different weeks later or was I suppose to feel it right away? Someone help!

feeling the same as you

I've had a PM now for about 8 years. I still feel the same as I did before I got mine.I feel slugglish, tired all the time, no energy, and have to lay down some every day. When I'm up on my feet I have to continuously look for a place to sit down. I believe the medicine pulls us down. They want us to exercise but I don't feel like being up, much less exercising. I'm not lazy. I've worked since I was 15 years old, and I'm not talking about just having a job. I'm talking about work, hard labor, like working at a saw mill, laying hardwood floors when it's 110 degrees. That's the kind of work I did for about 30 years, and would still be doing it today if not for this heart condition. I love to work and stay busy. I guess we just have to trust the good Lord and continue on!!! That's all I know. I believe that's the best advice I can give anyone!
Need more info

More information regarding your condition and why you got a PM would help us respond.
There are a number of conditions that you could feel better instantly, some it takes a while to adjust things, some the PM is just to keep you going....
You might just be going through the post surgery blahs. It usually takes our bodies some time to bounce back from being invaded and having a device implanted, even when we are young!
I was 22...

when I got my first unit. Remember, you just had surgery. Outpatient surgery, but surgery nonetheless. Your body is still healing. My advice would be to give it a few weeks and then assess. I was assymptomatic at 22 and got the PM due to bradycardia due to AV block.
You have to give yourself time.

Recovery is hard on your body. You're going to be tired, you're probably going to be in pain, and if you're anything like me you won't be sleeping as well as you used to. You have to give yourself time to heal. If you aren't feeling better in a couple weeks, then you might need your settings adjusted? It depends on how much work you pacer is doing for you. Take it easy for now, lay down when you're tired. I'm 19, and I got mine about two months ago.

MBT, my PM was a total surprise to me long story because of a medical mishap. I am 44 yo, it takes time to get to a "new normal" in my option. I am just one year with it and it's been a long year. It was and still is very heavy on my mind. It takes time.... How much, give it a year to find your "new normal". At first it really screwed up my head, but it will be ok. Slow and stready, it a marathon not a race.... Let your body heal..... And your head will too...
You know you're wired when...

One week has passed and I must admit that each day I feel a little stronger.
I'm probably the worst

I'm probably the worst person to answer you question as I was in a six day coma when they inserted my PM but here goes.
Because of previous problems, heart condition, medications, etc it took me several weeks to start feeling better. But once everything settled down, I really felt better. I was walking around amazed I could feel so good.
In the US we're accustomed to instant everything. Unfortunately it sometimes just takes time for medical issues.
Since you are much younger, I feel you should start feeling better much more quickly than me - unless, of course, you had some other major issues.
You may want to put another post on this forum asking for input from people who got their PM's in their 20's. They can give you a much better time frame than I can.
Hang in there. Life does get better.
