Hi I Am a 30 year old female having a defribilator inputted this week. I have been given the option of having it inserted in my chest or under my arm. Am struggling with the decision as have been told under the arm can be quite painful. Would really appreciate advice if anyone has any experiences to share. Thanks so much Simone

Mine is on the upper left side on my chest. It does stick out some but doesn't bother me. But your issue is a little different. I'm sure so of the other ladies will chime in soon. I have the ST.Judes ICD-PM. GL.
You know you're wired when...
You have a little piece of high-tech in your chest.

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!
Not so bad.

I just had my pacemaker put in yesterday, also upper left side of my chest. I'm not going to say it isn't painful, it is, and when I decided I was tough enough to go on Advil alone I was wrong. But that's mostly because I went down to get an x ray, I'm totally fine laying in bed without a thing in my system. But I only need half of the pain meds my doctor prescribed, and I am not someone who won't take something if I need it. Personally I wouldn't want this sort of pain under my arm, just because I assume it would hurt to put my arm down. I guess it depends on your priorities? How much you're worried about it showing? Hopefully someone with an under the arm can post soon and give you the other side of the story. Best of luck!
