selection

Does anyone know where a selection chart for ICDs is? I want to get a smaller one than my medtronc device. It sticks out, hurts and is a constant reminder of my issues.

ICDs

Hi!

I don't think there is a comprehensive overview of all ICD models. You will have to check the different manufacturer websites, and compare the models you find (the size is often listed under "specifications").

The size of your Medtronic Maximo is 37cc, 68g.
There are two new ICDs by Boston Scientific, called the Inogen Mini ICD and the Dynagen Mini ICD. Their size is around 28cc, 62g. So, that's a good bit smaller than your current device. Now, you can also look at what Biotronik, St. Jude and Sorin Group offer. Enter their websites and search their product portfolio.

If your pacemaker pocket hurts, you should definitely get that checked out. Also, maybe you do not need a smaller device, but a different placement, for instance under the muscle (subpectoral). That way it won't stick out so much.

Best wishes

Display board

My EP has a display board in his office with about 8 devices mounted on it (showroom?). They all looked about the same size...

Sweet!

Thank you for all of your comments. Makes me feel better to have a peer group other than muggles.

Does anyone know if Medtronic maximo leads are compatible with the BS Mini od SJ Eclipse?

Its really something to be ones own advocate because Doctors and Manf. withhold basic information.

I just found Boston Scientific's advertisement page for the new Mini ICDs:

It actually compares a few models with regards to volume and thinness.

which one did you choose?

Hi Davejs,

A good discussion around types of ICDs. I am also in a search for the best one that suites my needs.

In my prefference list, I am not just only looking for best size but also the one that does not kick inappropriate shocks. Also I would be interested in the one that lives longer. So far my shortlist is coming down to St. Jude's Fortify model.

I am thinking to post a main topic on discussion forum but was also wondering how close you are with your decision.

Regards,
Farhan.

It is just over 10 years since a dual lead device was implanted for complete heart block. It has worked perfectly and I have traveled well near two million miles internationally since then.
