Rides

I plan on taking my son to the amusement park tomorrow. I usually ride everything with him. Anything I should stay away from? Thanks for the advice. I am out living again - YEA

amusement park rides

Hi,

I am going to an amusement park today for my company picnic. I love going on all the rides and the first question I asked my Dr. before my surgery was "will I still be able to go on amusement park rides?". He thought a minute and told me yes, you have no restrictions. My biggest fear is the ones that have a harness over your chest and some of them that are jerky. I think hitting that harness (like when you get to the top of the space shot) will be painful so I found a little frog pillow/stuffed animal that is the perfect size to go over my PM site.I am going to try that and see if it helps.

I know a lot of the rides say you shouldn't ride if you have a heart condition but my problem is just heart block and I got my pacer for that so since I got my doc's ok I don't feel those warnings apply to me.

Good luck to you and have fun!

Take care,
~Sheila

The ride to avoid is the bumper cars or dodgems as they have industrial magnets which may interfere with the pacemaker settings. However, once you move away then the pacemaker settings should revert to normal.

Well, I survived my day at the amusement park and hope boysmom did too! It was very hot and humid but that really didn't phase me. I went on everything except the bumper cars. The restraints did not really bother me but I think that is because my PM is implanted in my pec muscle and not under my collar bone. I did use my little frog pillow on some of them. Not sure it helped but it gave me peace of mind. The worst ones were the rough bumpy roller coasters that shook me to pieces. Even other people who don't have pacemakers were complaining about how rough they were. (I have been on all of them before and knew what to expect) I had a little discomfort but nothing too terrible. It is a tiny bit sore today but ice will help that. I would advise people to wait several months after their surgery before doing something like this though. Mine was 5 months ago and that was barely enough time.

Take care everyone and have a great day!

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
