A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.

It would be virtually impossible to fall and pull the lead out of the heart. After the first year, if it has to come out it's a special, highly specialized surgery done with a laser, removing the vein from the scar tissue millimeter by millimeter. It is possible, however unlikely, to damage the lead. When in doubt, call your doctor. An interrogation will show immediately if it's pacing, and an xray will show if you damaged it.
