Low pulse rate

I had a St Jude ICD implanted in 2009. Lately I have been experiencing intermittent episodes of a very irregular pulse rate in the low 40's Could this mean the unit is not working properly?

How are you getting the count of 40? If you are in afib, having PVC's or something like that, it can be hard to count. Many monitors are not accurate with us, the pacing can confuse the count. Whenever you suspect your rate is more than a few beats under your minimum setting, it's best to be checked.

Do you have a "box" that hooks into your phone and sends a report to your doc without the need to go in? If so, send a report and follow-up with a phone call to see what they say.

If you don't have a box, go see your doc. It's always better to get checked than wonder if what you're feeling is normal or acceptable.

low pulse rate

I get my pulse rate by counting the beats at my wrist with my fingers. I also use a fingertip pulse oximeter and the count is the same. I went to my cardio and complained about this and he prescribed water pills and told me to come back in 3 weeks I'm thinking about finding a new doctor.

Is your device JUST an ICD? If it has no pacing capabilities, it will not help a slow HR.
