Dependancy on pacemaker

Hi,

Last one month I am in dilemma. I was excessively sweating
when I was at physical job in my professional field. Reported the matter to Cardiologist. Feed back was fully dependant on PM. Reason was Stress, Anxiety and less exercise. Gone to my Home town. Shown to the programmer of Biotronik Dealer.
He also told the same thing. Doctor told after re chekups that I am suffering from cervical spondilitis. Due to that I am sinking
sometimes. After implantation I got some extra pounds due to less exercises. Initially while standing and sitting I was required
PM for pacing. But while lying condition heart working Normal as told by doctor. As doctor told now I am 100% dependant on PM.

My questions are:

(1) What is the cause behind this?

(2) What will be the effect?

(3) How I can regain the earlier condition of health?

(4) Will it effect in marital relationship?

(5) What are the exercises I should go through for my
healthy life?

If somebody gone through like me plese share it with me for my
better living as well as for others who are passing through these states.

Regards,
Somnath Banerjee.

Staying Alive and Happy

Hello Somnath,

I'm sorry to hear your health is not as good as it was in your earlier years. I'll make a few guesses on your questions.

(1) What is the cause behind this?
We must always remember that the reason many of have our health to take a turn for the worse is something that we will never know. It happens to some and does not happen to others.

(2) What will be the effect?
I think that only time can give you a definitive answer. Also, your doctor is the best qualified to answer this question for you.

(3) How I can regain the earlier condition of health?
Following your doctors orders is your best chance of getting the answer you want for this question.

(4) Will it effect in marital relationship?
Probably not. It may cause you change some things but in general a happy well adjusted couple find ways to work around many obstacles they sometimes run into in life.

(5) What are the exercises I should go through for my healthy life? First check with your doctor. I have found walking and swimming to be the best exercises for me, but each of us must find, with the help of our doctor, what is best for us.

I don't know enough about what you have been through to say that I have been through the same thing. But 25 years ago (I was 53 at the time) I had my life turned upside down. I had a major heart attack which was followed as soon as I was physically able with quadruple bypass surgery. I was told that I had significant damage to my heart from the heart attack and that I should prepare myself to take it easy for the remainder of my life, which, because of my heart problems, may not be very long. I refused to believe that and with the help of my wife I started on a what my doctor said would be a healthy lifestyle which included the exercise mentioned above. In less than a year I was doing things I was not physically able to do prior to my heart attack and surgery. I am an engineer and more than a half of my time was spent at a desk. I did chores around my home each weekend and usually played golf once or twice each week. But that was about the extent of my exercise. In addition to starting an exercise program I realized it was time to quit smoking, which I had done for 27 years.

Now, if you bear with me I'll give you my philosophy on continuing to stay alive. I visualize death as being basically a lazy person. As such he selects his victims from those lazy people that could do better but for whatever reason they choose to sit arpund doing nothing rather than being an active person. With my thinking that death is really looking for those people that are easy to catch, I try to be on the move whenever possible. I stop to rest, but I never stop with the intentions of that being my activity for the remainder of my life. I think that as of result I am still here today, in spite of being told on three different occasions that I had only a few months to live. The last time I heard that was in 2000.

So, if I have any advice for you, it is to get on with your life. Follow your doctor's recommendations and stay busy so that you do not constantly worry about the possibility of having deteriorating health.

I wish you the best.

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
