I had to have pacemaker replaced after 2 months due to loose leads. I think it has happened again. I keep having these episodes. Like it feels hollow in my chest?? First it was just at night when going to sleep, but the past several weeks it happens all the time! Has anyone experienced this awful sensation? First time they told me it was just anxiety until they saw the x-ray and could see the leads dangling! I would really love to hear about anyones experience with this also.

Loose Leads

Hi Book 61- Hope you have an answer to your problem. I had a Brr sound from my pacemaker and then had this 'hollow' feeling you were talking about..weak, and empty feeling, as if pacemaker was not working. I went in next day and had my pacemaker checked and she said my leads and everything was good. have a year yet on my battery. I have no idea what mine was--but it was strange. I cannot help you but want you to know your not alone. Pray you get an answer. Peace, Peppurr

I too have had the experience of loose leads. After two months went to Dr. for general checkup, feeling light headed and faint most of the time. During the Medtronics check and a x ray it was determined that my ventrical lead had come loose. Went back in to surgery for repair and they found that both leads had come loose. I am now 8 weeks into the second surgery and still feel weak, and anxious. Wonder if I will ever feel better.
Cause of loose leads

Did they say what caused the loose leads? I just had my leads revised after 10months of the initial placement. The doctor indicated it was due to my weight pulling on them? That doesn't seem to make sense to me. He also perforated my lead during the revision and indicated he didn't want to do a drain of the fluid as I'm overweight. While I am overweight, I'm not huge.

It made a HUGE difference in my life. Once I got it, I was finally able to run, and ride my bike long distances.

This phenomenon strikes me as very strange being that, at least as I understand, the leads go from the pace maker to the heart through a vein. Unless there is slack in the lead somewhere which is not in the vein. Perhaps someone will enlighten my curiosity.
