Pain after a year

Hi all - I had a pacemaker put in back in January 2014. Everything has been great until the last couple of days. I have some pain right where the upper edge of the pacemaker is. I haven't done anything (to my knowledge) that would have "pulled" anything. Has anyone else had pain so long after it was put in? It's not terrible - it's just uncomfortable. If it's not better in a couple of days, I will call the doctor. Just wondering if any of you have had a similar thing happen.

I think it is normal

I’m 41 and have a Medtronic CRT for full heart block. This model was inserted more than two years ago and I still get discomfort from time to time. Usually if I sleep on the pacemaker side too much or do certain exercises that put pressure around the insertion site it starts to ache. If I am careful for a few days it always gets better. My doctor has told me in the past as long as I do not see bruising and feel ok it should be fine.

2 1/2 years, and I still get discomfort exactly as you describe at the uppermost part of the device. Mine is on the left shoulder just under the collar bone. Sometimes it is an itch, sometimes a sharp pain, sometimes just feeling like it needs to be stretched and/or scratched. I sleep with a pillow over the site so I can turn on my left side and not compress the area.

The big thing is, as AngrySparrow1 says, is to watch for signs of bleeding or infection. The rest, I feel, is that you have been cut and invaded and your body doesn't like it, so it is reminding you to be constantly aware and vigilant.

Good Luck and Good Life. PJ
