New to this site, fortunately. I have sick sinus syndrome. Cardiac arrest. Fainted in kitchen. Went to ER next morning. Code Blue! Flatlined in ER. CPR and prep for temp PM.
Surgery at 7:30pm. In ICU they strapped my leg down to prevent puncture of the lung or heart with the leads if I bent the leg. The leads were fed from the right groin to the heart. The PM was supposed to be installed at 11the next morning. It was delayed until 7:30 that night. So they put the leads in but during the night the atrial came loose and my heart beat was dropping to30. The next evening they did it again and this time the lead held. They try to place it in a crevice between the atrial and ventricle nodes. We are still trying to get the wireless monitor to communicate with the hospital. First couple weeks was tough. I have 6weeks under my belt and feeling more normal every day.

I am no expert, but I believe that without the defibrillator that I have, I would be dead.

Collapsed on the hiking trail. They put in a temporary PM and had to strap me down in Intensive Care. Waited 4 1/2 days to see if I would live and then put in a permanent PM. Was supposed to go at 10AM and they only took me at 5PM because the IC nurse had temper tantrum and told them I was prepped for implantation.
Because of the trauma my body was ringing like a bell. My BP was all over the place, heart was jumping all over the place, and the PM was kicking in all the time. (I could feel the PM when it kicked in.)
Almost 90 days out now and feeling very good. I was ready for the bad news but wasn't ready for the good stuff. I have a full heartbeat now which makes me feel good. I'm not cold all the time. I don't get dizzy when I stand up. I don't have to gasp for air.
Hang in there. Things get better.
