Did anyone else

Develop acid reflux after getting their pacemaker? I got my pacemaker last month on 4/25 for a congenital complete heart block 3rd degree. It started a couple of weeks ago. When I lay down at night I get it or I wake up with it. It's pretty much every night. It's pretty mild and not painful ir anything. It's just a little strange. I certainly don't want any damage to my throat. Has anyone else had this and happen? If so did it go away or did you have to start medicaton to get rid of it?

The last time I had GERD was about 10 years ago. The pacemaker went in this Feb. and I have noticed the acid reflux again. It could be because my whole system was out of wac with less exercise, less sleep, possibly different meals, possibly eating later at night, etc. It could also be because of sleeping in a different position at first, so I didn't roll over on the pacemaker or the left arms until it healed. Who knows, but now I will pay move attention to whatever I might be doing differently. I will quit eating after 7 PM and not eat acid foods at dinner.

Coincidentally, I got mine on 4/25 this year also. I have noticed heartburn periodically, but it is usually mild and it goes away. I got a bad case the other day and I was worried that it wasn't heart burn, but I munched a tums and it was gone so it turned out to be just a bad case of heartburn. Before the PM I never got heartburn.

Acid Reflux

Hi,

I would be discussing this with your Cardiologist just because it coincidentally began after your pacemaker. With that being said, are you on any new medications that may be the culprit???

There are lots of medications that can help or even prevent acid reflux, I have tried them all and what works for me is called Prevacid.

Call me a "Nervous Nelly"; but again I would be discussing this with either your family doctor or whomever implanted your pacemaker.

Take care and keep us posted.

It did start when my family Dr. Started me on vitimin B12 shots, vitimin D and fish oil. I wonder if it's the fish oil. Other than that, no medication. Thanks for everone's advice. I will tell my Cardiologist when I see him next. It's not too far away.

gerd

I started getting gerd at the time I developed SSS, so I had it before the PM. The best tips I can give you are not to eat 3 hours before bedtime, don't lay down after eating, avoid alcohol (I quit completely) and put a small block of wood under each leg at the head end of the bed to raise it & prevent acid rising in the night.

Tomato based dishes bring it on for me more than anything, I just eat a smaller portion & follow the rules above, it keeps it at bay.

You know you're wired when...

You prefer rechargeable batteries.
