when can i shoot??????

Hi all,

Had pacemaker fitted on 18th Dec 2013. I am itching to start practicing for hunting season, so my question is when can i shoot both rifle and pistol. The implant is on the left but handle rifle on the right.

You are too funny donr. I always appreciate your comments/replies.

Dean20, like Tracey mentioned, if you're right handed and your pm is on the left, then shoot away. Just make sure you hit animals, and not humans :-)

Enjoy it!

Have a nice day.

Don, lol,

.470ne is no typo. its my stopping gun. if im not carring my double 470ne then its a .458 african. so i stay shooting stoppers!

I know where you can get...

;..a good muzzle brake for that thing to reduce the recoil a bit. It'll be a bit heavy. You see, it's currently on a museum piece German Tiger tank from WW-II that sported an 88 mm gun.

Oh, BTW, you'd have to get it by moonlight requisition.

go for it

You're at 6 weeks and your pm is on the opposite side, if you feel up to it you can probably try it now. Start with something without much kick and work up.

Im a Zimbabwean professional hunter. season starts as early as mid march. I will be shooting .470ne!

Wouldn't want to start the season without knowing how the recoil will affect me and of course rust from off season!

Unless you mean hunting for...

...wild turkeys in Florida, USA, it's still a bit early for practicing that. You have lots of time.

It also depends on what calibre firearm you choose to shoot.

If it's a .22 class weapon, rim or center fire, you could actually start practice this week - it's been 6 weeks. I hunt deer w/ a .257 Roberts, so know what the recoil is from those types of cartridge. Personally, I'd wait a couple more weeks - there's no hurry. There's really no danger of tearing anything apart at this point, but why risk any damage when you have the rest of your life before you.

Now - if you want to punch .30 calibre holes in paper, I'd definitely wait about two more weeks. The recoil shock from those class weapons is not something you need this soon, for hunting this fall.

If you are talking big African game - I'll defer to JerryG who lives on a game farm in South Africa.

WOW!!!!! Shoulder Artillery!

Dean - I'm glad I did not make any blanket statements about this. I got the impression from JerryG that the ,470's are really cannons - "Elephant Guns," us Yanks would call them. I've seen one of those fired from a fixed rest & the recoil is pretty vicious. So bad trhat it cracked the stock!

Jerry is just a bit south of you, living in the Kruger area & lives on a farm in that area.

Look him up & send him a Pvt Msg asking about this. He is by far your best help about this.

I assume that your nomenclature (,47One) is not a typo & you mean a .47 single shot weapon.

My hat is off to anyone who can handle a weapon of such size. I never even liked the recoil of the US .30-06. That pooped out a 150 grain bullet at about 2800 FPS.

As an uneducated guess, I'd say that you have got to start soon. The mental issues in the uncertainty are definitely going to affect your first few rounds fired. As your client, facing a charging whatever, (w/ big teeth & a nasty disposition) Hell-Bent on my destruction, I would feel a lot more comfortable knowing that you are on form for the challenge.

If all else fails, I'll give your address to our older daughter, Susan, who possesses an "Evil-Eye" that will stop a charging, enraged rhino at 100 yards. At least I think it will - I've seen it stop an unruly teenager, not her own. She can act as backup to you & would welcome the challenge. If all else fails, she'll step up & kill the beast w/ bare hands, probably by breaking its neck. NOBODY screws w/ Susan.
