Wife's bp and low pulse

Interested in the discussion about pacemaker Y/N. Wife's bp has been systol over 200, now controlled mainly via atenonol and anxiety pill. Wife's pulse usually low 50's sometimes high 40's. When bp controlled (130/77 - sometimes 120/65) she has headaches and generally feels lousy. I believe raising her pulse via pm would increase tremendously her quality of life.
(She was born 1935 in Nebraska.) (Her mother lived to 100, so I don't want her to have many years of substandard life). (Her physician has been negative re pm.)

cardiologist?

by Tracey_E - 2013-06-18 03:06:14

Has she seen a cardiologist or electrophysiologist rather than her internist? A specialist is in a better position to say if it might help. There are no crystal balls so when multiple things are causing her to feel bad it's hard to say if an increased heart rate will help. Her resting rate is low but not extremely low. Under 60 is labeled bradycardia but 50's is generally watched, not treated. Does her rate go up with activity?

Could any of her meds cause the headaches? Does she stay hydrated?

Atenolol can wipe you out. I'm on a very low dose of it and napped nearly every day the whole first year I was on it, I'm in my 40's with no other health issues. Is there any chance of controlling the bp without meds, changes in diet and exercise?
