pacemaker alarm sound

I've had a st judes pacemaker for about a month. A week ago I heard a beeping noise that sounded like a siren twice back to back. I went to the doctor the next day and they didnt find any errors , and they said the battery was good when they hooked me up to the programmer. I didn't hear the noise any more after that night. I was wondering if anyone else had that problem or if anyone can tell me why it was beeping.

Hi, I do not have any experience with this but I noticed you hadn't received any responses yet.

If you use the Search at the top right side of this site, and type in beeping, it does bring up several older posts about the subject.

Alarm/Beeping

Hi,

I have a St. Jude CRT-P, and mine does have an alarm that sounds like an old fashioned European police siren.

Mine has never gone off on it's own, but my PM tech has activated it purposely, so myself and my husband could hear it in case it ever does go off on it's own.

I would ask your PM tech to activate yours the next time you're there, to see if it was the same sound you heard or not, just out of curiosity. And, also ask if it's possible for it to go off for no reason. One tech did tell me a while back, that sometimes these alarms will go off for some "unknown" reason, but to always call and get it checked out if it does, because they're meant to go off if the battery is below a certain level, or if there is a problem, so it does happen.

Maybe yours did go off on it's own for some unknown reason. I looked at my old CRT-P report printouts, and it has never shown when she activated my alarm for testing. This could be the case with you too. Maybe your report didn't detect the alarm went off, so the PM Tech doesn't have that info to confirm it, or why.

As long as they checked it out to make sure everything is okay, I wouldn't be too worried, but you might want to call the manufacturer to see if they have an answer, just in case. Better safe than sorry, and it might put your mind at ease, especially if it happens again.

I'm with TalkinCardio. Do a search on this site, and also search for "alarm" along with beep, beeping, noise, etc.

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
