Hi All,
Ok relatively new to the site and it has been quite helpful, but one maybe I have missed but thought I would ask...
I am a 37yr old male and had my pm since May 1 this year. My main symptom was shortness of breath that progressed and got significantly worse rather rapidly. Anyway occasionally, I have bouts of shortness of breath while at rest sitting watching tv etc. I check my heart rate and typically now between 65-75 bpm. Are these type of bouts normal as this is still pretty new and how long should they continue before becoming concerned?
Great site and thanks for the help!

Shortness or breath

That's just it, it's not from exercising or stairs or anything, and the bouts last anywhere from a minutes to couple hours. Please keep in mind, it's not like a gasping type shortness, just feel like not getting enough oxygen.
sob

If it's happening at random and you aren't on any meds that can cause it, I'd call the dr. If it's on exertion, it could easily be the settings.
Pm's fix a slow heart rate, so it will only fix sob if it's caused by a slow hr. I'm assuming you had a slow hr in order to get the pm, do you know what your diagnosis was?

Mine was after riding my bike, but it lasted all day. I'm 38.
Have it checked

I recommend getting it checked out or ringing your pacemaker clinic. I just went to hospital a few days ago for fatigue and shortness of breath( my lungs felt like I had just been running). They did lots of tests but couldn't find anything, blood tests will rule out a clot, enimia and other such nasties. It gave me peace of mind but no answers. Good luck!
shortness of breath

I had the same type of shortness of breath, it was my settings PM was set at 60-130---new settings--60---150, this made a huge difference instantly. Think of it as a restrictor/governor on a old car, for me I wasn't gasping, I just couldn't get anymore air to do anything really other than walk. I'm still a little winded, but I think it's because I couldn't use my whole lung capacity for almost 5 months. It should get better! Seriously now that I've called the company so much trying to learn about it, and through this forum too, I've come to the conclusion its the settings 75% of the time. My pacemaker set at 130, my breathing was restricted, when it was turned up to 150 I was getting 20 more beats of blood and oxygen, it was a huge difference. When the pacing clinic ran the graph it shows on paper positive proof that I needed it!

What was causing the shortness of breath? Are you on any meds? Anything new or unusual is worth a phone call to at least check in with the cardio, imo.
