Hey new to the site and glad I found it maybe someone could
Help me out on this subject
I'm looking to get a tattoo of a pm on top of my pm to help with
Being Self-conscious of the bulge from the pacemaker
As I'm 6"1 170lbs a thin person you can see the outline of the pm
I asked my Doc Dr.Waller he stated he has never heard of anyone doing such a thing under my Circumstances since I have
Brugada syndrome it shouldn't affect my pacemaker - Defibrillator as long as the machine is not against it for a period of time
Was just wondering has anyone ever done it before and have they had problems or not
Thanks

Vibrations
by Yakkwak - 2013-05-07 07:05:41
Do you have variable rate response turned on in your pm? I think vibrations may impact that option - am thinking about the tattoo'ng machine's vibrations.... Like what ronaldo said about them cutting into it. Eventually, you'll have to have it replaced and either cut into the tattoo or make a second incision - and that would be contrary to your goal of having a less noticeable incision site. Do you think you might just end up with a MORE noticeable "bump" with everyone checking out your tattoo? Am in a silly mood - you could make a third nipple. Who said that? ;-()

Thank you all for help on this matter
I see I came to the right place ;)
As for the battery change every 10 years I can live
With that I would just have them cut where they
Have before if possible then have the tattoo redone on the
3-4 in scar above the pm at a later time after healing nice n good
The ideal is to take away from the bulge from me
Being thin I don't mind the scar just the bulge
Like when I swim I have my shirt off of course
But I feel better with a tank top on when I swim but trying to steer away from that I think a cool rip in to the flesh tattoo showing a pm under the skin type of tat would be kick ass
I know the pm bulge with always be there u can't hide that and since my whole left arm is tatted up already I just thought that a cool tat over the site would help me from being Self-conscious about that bulge
I don't think the tat would be ruin do to a batt change maybe I will leave the scar alone and just tat around it
Thank you all for commenting I look forward to reading everyone's reply
O I almost forgot about the vibrations I will have to ask about that
self conscious and options

Unfortunately most doctors don't seem to take into account the patients issue with having a hump, or constant reminder of one's heart condition.
If your ICD is like mine, it's close to the surface of the skin and I'm not sure how far the tatoo depth would be, but more than say 1/16" would run the risk of striking the ICD itself in my case. I would think the issue of a Tatoo over the implant would be more of a concern over infection than anything else.
I do know how you feel, though. The only people who have seem my implant in the last 6 years are my doctors/nurses. I haven't even looked since my glue came off the incision (I see enough of it through my undershirts). Now, when I get my ICD replaced this year, I will be going with a sub-pec implant so I can't see it anymore and I can partially forget I do have a heart problem.
The world has gone mad

I guess i risk infection with every tattoo I get weather on my arm or on or around pm site
I strongly agree on pleasing myself and making myself more Comfortable when I have my shirt off in public and if a tattoo does that for me than so be it maybe I do care what people think of me is that a crime
I came here to hear the up and downs of this matter and to hear ones Experience in this important subject
Thank you Ian for your two cents but you came off too strong and for that I no longer need your input on this
Thank you every one
I have a bulge too

I have a bulge from the pacemaker too, Im a small female.. At first it did bug me and i do notice people looking at it..I do have tattoos on my shoulders and back so i am not against them at all haha..
I look at my scar , i have 2 long ones (as i had a reveal monitor removed also) as well as the bulge to remind me off how far i have come, I have had 13 surgeries. if people want to look and yes i have even had strange ask !! Thats on them. Im proud to say that i am strong and have come this far. There is so much more you could have wrong show it off and be proud how far you have come along, and dont hide it.

Is the world going mad or is it just me?

Hi Twenty.... You're a thin guy and you are self-conscious about other people seeing the outline of your PM
... so you agree that you are concerned about what other people think of you ... still with me ?
Because you are concerned about what other people think about you you are going to have a coloured picture of a PM put on top of the slight bulge from your PM.
Where's this going to lead to...why not have a tattoo of your brain where your brain should be ??
You have made a judgement that other people will think more highly of you if you have a tattoo of a PM on top of your PM site. I question your basic judgement about how other people will perceive this .You are willing to risk infection and alteration of your PM settings for this ... I strongly recommend that you reconsider and live with your bulge.

next time get it placed under the muscle it takes a bit longer to heal but for me was immeasurably more comfortable looking better was an accidental benefit. I am 60 and always cold so cosmetics had no bearing in fact i told the doctor I didn't care what the scar looked like as long as it felt better when he was through and OMG did it ever. I had considered getting a zipper placed down the middle of my chest after my 2nd open heart surgery but I am glad I didn't waste my money I have had 3 more since and had the scar revised 2 times to make it narrower and I scat I had 2 inches from the center of my chest was completely gone after the last revision. I have no objection to tattoos except on my very pale daughter... who thinks I have lightened my objection to her getting one until after I am dead to include or if I am blind. Get a tattoo if it makes you happy as long as you get it done responsibly.

by bouncerzgerl2013 - 2013-11-01 12:11:30
I got a pacemaker put in 2 weeks ago and I had a tattoo there where they did the cut and it is infected is it because of my tattoo I've had the tattoo about 3 years
Why Self-conscious?

I have always saw the scar and bulge from the PM to be a good conversation starter, especially when the person doesn't know what it is. Just remember, the PM helps you stand out, kind of like tattoos. You are unique. I am planning on getting tattoos aswell, just not over the site. The PM site is actually kind of tender for me, I feel like it would hurt. Well hope the best for you.

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.
